ASSCIATES OF THE CENTER BRIEF PROFILES OF UDEC CONSULTANTS
PROF. LETTICE K. RUTASHOBYA UDEC boasts of a large pool of highly experienced trainers, consultants and researchers with a good track record for working with central and local governments, government agencies, and private firms and civil organisations.
Prof. L. Rutashobya holds bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Dar es Salaam as well as a professional Postgraduate Diploma in Export Marketing from PRODEC, Finland. She has attended a number of international Training of trainers (TOT) programmes, including those organised by the International Training Centre of the ILO, Turin, Italy, the International Trade Centre, Geneva, PRODEC, Helsinki, etc which have enabled her to acquire immense experience in organising training events including training of trainers programmes.
She has a wide experience as a trainer, consultant and researchers in: customer care, women in business, project formulation, management and monitoring and evaluation, change management, etc. She has co-ordinated and delivered major training, research and consultancy projects for the UNDP, Prevention of Corruption Bureau (PCB), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Cooperatives and Marketing, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, NASACO, Tanzania Railways Authority (TRA), the British Council, private companies, etc.
DR. MARCELLINA MVULA CHIJORIGA Dr. Marcellina Chijoriga is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Finance, Faculty of Commerce and Management, University of Dar es Salaam. She holds a B.Com degree in Accounting from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, an MBA in Finance from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and a Ph.D. in Economics and Finance from the University of Economics and Business Administration Vienna, Austria. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Institutional Economics from the University of Connecticut-USA and a Diploma in Business Administration from the College of Business Education, Dar es Salaam. She has also attended a number of short courses, workshops and seminars in various business and management areas and higher education
Dr Chijoriga’s special expertise and strengths are in corporate finance, banking and financial institutions; micro finance, small business development and management; strategic planning and financial planning; project planning, management, monitoring and evaluation; and education finance. She is also a seasoned entrepreneurship and small business trainer, and developer, and gender specialist.
With regard to services to the public, Dr. Chijoriga has done a number of consultancies some of which she was the team leader. These included project /programme design for the University, DANIDA, sector mapping, policy studies/surveys, development of monitoring plans/systems, project evaluation, business planning for small, medium and large firms; strategic planning; preparation of constitutions, preparation of teaching manuals, change management, facilitation in development of enterprising behaviour, facilitation. She has been engaged as a consultant by the Ministries of Health and Natural Resources and Tourism to facilitate their transition from project/programme planning to Sector-wide Approach (SWAP).
DR. DONATH R. OLOMI Dr. Olomi is a Senior Lecturer and is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the University of Dar es Salaam Entrepreneurship Centre (UDEC). Dr. Donath Olomi holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), an MBA and a PhD in business administration from Tanzania, Canada and Sweden respectively. His PhD research was on growth-seeking behaviour of Tanzanian SME operators. He has also participated in a number of short courses on enterprise development, consulting skills, programme design, management, monitoring and evaluation, etc. He has over 14 years experience in training and consulting, and has consulted for a number of organisations, including the Ministries of Finance, Natural Resources and Tourism, Industry and Trade, UNDP, the World Bank, the ILO, the Royal Netherlands Embassy (RNE), DANIDA, etc. He has successfully carried out a wide several assignments related to baseline surveys, programme design, development of monitoring plans, project/programme evaluation, sector (SME) mapping, institutional sector and organisational assessments, etc. He is an effective facilitator in courses related to time management, intrapreneurship, private sector development, customer care, business planning, strategic planning, business planning, trainer training on entrepreneurship development, intrapreneurship, etc
DR. EDWIN NELSON Edwin Nelson holds degrees in Law (LLB) from the University of London and in Management Science (MSc) from Durham University Business School as well as a PhD in enterprise development from the University of Twente ( Netherlands). His early employment background includes experience in private sector manufacturing and public sector services, as well as teaching and research at the UK universities of Durham, Hull and Newcastle, private sector business management, and contract consultancy. He is now an independent enterprise development adviser with links to TSM Business School, The University of Twente in The Netherlands, and the Foundation for SME Development, the University of Durham, in the UK, and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
For the last 10 years Edwin Nelson has been engaged in training, consultancy and research projects in transition and developing economies Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa. His experience covers project development, inception, implementation and evaluation studies and he has served in a variety of short-term and long-term advisory positions.
A specialist in enterprise and management development with more than twenty years of experience in consultancy, which is supported by a varied background in manufacturing industry and public service management. Experience includes personal and institution development and industry modernisation in transition and developing economies. Personal skills include training, consultancy, project management, inception and evaluation studies. Experience covers both long and short projects in a wide range of countries in the European Union, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, the Mediterranean region and Africa.
PROFESSOR BEATUS KUNDI Dr. B.A.T. Kundiis an Associate Professor in Engineering Management in the Department of Engineering Management and Entrepreneurship, University of Dar es Salaam . His current teaching, research and consultancy areas are in information technology management,industrial engineering, strategic management, project management, business development and strategic planning.
Prof. Kundi received his Ph.D. in Management Sciences, focusing on Organisation Design and Analysis, from the University of Waterloo ( Canada). His Masters degree is also in Management Sciences (Operations Research) from the University of Waterloo. He also holds a B.Sc. in Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam and Certificate in the Design and Management of Efficient Organisations from London School of Economics.
Prof. Kundi is a certified entrepreneurship trainer using the CEFE approach pioneered by the German Agency for Technical Co-operation (GTZ). The approach is used in many countries across the world in business start-ups and development training courses. For over three year, until 1998, he was the chairman of the CEFE Association of Tanzania, an NGO comprising of CEFE trainers. As a CEFE trainer, he has participated in conducting many business start-up courses in the country. At presently, Prof. Kundi is an active member of the University of Dar es Salaam Entrepreneurship Centre.
With regard to recent consultancy assignments to the outside public, Dr. Kundi has been involved in many assignments concerned with strategic planning, business planning, trainer training, project design, monitoring and evaluation, feasibility studies. He has been the lead person and moderator of the preparation of the University of Dar es Salaam strategic planning process since the mid 1990s. DIANA PHILEMON MWIRU Ms Diana Philemon is a Lecturer at the University of Dar Es Salaam, Faculty of Commerce and Management in the Department of Marketing. She holds a B.Com and an MBA from the University of Dar es Salaam and a Licentiate from Umea University, Sweden. Her main areas of expertise are marketing, entrepreneurship, human resources management, business planning, strategic training, international marketing, trainer training and customer care. She has been involved in a number of studies and training projects for the International Labor Organization, Labor Exchange Centre, DAHACO, University College of Lands and Architectural Studies, Community Telecentres, African Development Fund (ADF), Ministry of Cooperatives and Marketing, etc DR. Dr. Mariam Nchimbi holds a B.Com, from the University of Dar es Salaam, a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Analysis, PDGFA, MA, Dublin; PhD, Dar) is a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting associated with the UDSM Entrepreneurship Center. Her research has mainly been on gender and entrepreneurs, focusing mainly on comparative studies of motives, characteristics, incidence of growth and constraints to growth of men and women owned enterprises in Tanzania. Her PhD research was on gender and entrepreneurship. Dr. Nchimbi has worked as a trainer and consultant in a number of community-based and natural resources projects. She is a trainer in a program for developing management, monitoring and evaluation capacity of Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
DR. BENEDICT MONGULA Benedict Mongula holds bachelors, masters and PhD degrees from the University of Dar es Salaam. He is senior Lecturer in the Institute of Development Studies, University of Dar es Salaam. His main research has been on private sector development in Tanzania. He is responsible for offering University-wide course on entrepreneurship. He has done research and consultancy and published in a number of areas, including privatization, community telecentres, technical assistance to developing countries, business and poverty, food security, appropriate technology, micro-industry, etc. He trains in a number of areas, including project management, senzitisation of economic policies, etc
DR. ROSE SHAYO Dr. Rose Shayo holds bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Dar es Salaam as well as a PhD from Manchester University in development studies. She is a Senior Lecture in the Institute of Development Studies, associated to the University of Dar es Salaam Entrepreneurship Center. She is a renowned expert in gender issues, particularly in relation to business. Her main research has been in agriculture technology diffusion, motherhood initiatives, participation of women in road maintenance, access to finance by women, time use, gender issues in rural development, etc. She has consulted widely in gender issues, including developing national policies and programmes for mainstreaming gender. She is also a seasoned trainer in gender issues.
MUTAHYOBA D.A. BAISI Mutahyoba Baisi is a Lecturer in the Department of Finance in the Faculty of Commerce and Management at the University of Dar es Salaam. He has worked for the University of Dar es Salaam since 1982 when he graduated with a B.Com honors. Prior to joining the University Mr Baisi worked as a Trade and Industrial Assistant with the Ministry of Industries and Trade for two years. Mr Baisi holds an MBA in International Business and Finance from the University of Antwerp ( Belgium) and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Florida A & M University (USA). Currently, he is finalizing his PhD in Finance at the University of Dar es Salaam.
Mr Baisi has more than twenty years experience in teaching, consultancy and research in the areas of Corporate Finance. He has supervised more than twenty MBA Projects and Dissertations, and has been contracted as a Consultant by local and international firms. His particular interests are in financial restructuring, financing decisions, small business financing, project appraisal, financial planning, Entrepreneurship and Small business development He has also been involved in training programs organized by the Faculty of Commerce and Management and the University of Dar es Salaam Entrepreneurship Center (UDEC), the Center for Continuing Education (CCE) and the UDSM Consultancy Bureau (UCB). His training assignments have especially been in the areas of Project Proposal development, Project Management, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Business Planning, Strategic Plan development and preparation, Financing and Management of SMEs and Entrepreneurship and Business Development. To date, he has acted either as a lead trainer/facilitator or co-facilitator in more than 30 programs.
VIN MORAR Vin Morar holds A BA degree in Business, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education/Pedagogy and a higher degree in Human Resource Development. A specialist ion enterprise development, Vin has 16 years experience in the field of Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and SME development work, 8 years project/assignment based experience in Central & Eastern Europe and 5 years experience in team leadership, management and financial responsibility for a dedicated project in Tanzania. Designed, developed and is project managing 'FAME', a Dutch aid programme for setting up an Entrepreneurship Centre at the University of Dar Es Salaam. He also has 5 years experience of human resource and management development through enterprise education in the Republic of the Seychelles, Indian Ocean and years intermittent experience since 2000 of working in South Africa for: Enterprise Education development (Polokwane, Port Elizabeth & Durban), Institutional Strengthening (Polokwane, Johannesburg & Pretoria), Incubator performance assessment (Johannesburg & Pretoria), Business & Science Park needs analysis (Bloemfontein). Vin has strong analytical and conceptual skills, highly developed networks and benchmarking references and is versatile and able to understand the needs and work with individual small business entrepreneurs as well as large companies or regional/national government departments.
He also has strong interpersonal skills and an ability to integrate into local governments, institutions and international businesses as demonstrated by numerous assignments since 1987 and considerable experience of on-the-job training at various levels as demonstrated by training needs assessment, priorities training programme, development of SME curricula and appropriate training materials, institutional strengthening, training/development of trainers and business councilors.
Dr. MUSSA J. ASSAD Dr. Mussa J. Assad holds a Barchelor degree in Accounting from the University of Dar es Salaam, MBA and PhD from University of ..... UK.

King'ori has a wide range of expertsm in Accounting, Small Business and management. She has been involved in many training, researches and consultancies at the Faculty of Commerce and at the University of Dar es Salaam Entrepreneurship Centre.
Lic. DIANA MWIRU Lic Diana holds barchelor degree and MBA in Marketing from the University of Dar es Salaam. Mbura holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Management (B.Comm.), Masters of Business Administration (MBA) by the University of Dar Es Salaam and a Masters of Arts in Employment and Labour studies (Human Resources) by The institute of Social Studies (ISS) in the Netherlands. He also holds a licentiate degree by the UMEA University in Sweden. He is currently a Ph.D. student in the Business administration.
Mbura has been a vast experience in the areas of entrepreneurship, Marketing, Business planning, Human Resources management, customer care, leadership and management skills. He has for over 10 years been engaged in training and consulting in the areas of Entrepreneurship in various training organizations including the University of Dar Es salaam, CBE, IFM, ITA and APT consultants. He is currently commissioned by the National Board for Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) to write a book on Entrepreneurship. Last year he had published a book on marketing, Customer service and Business ethics under the sponsorship of the Tanzania Institute of Bankers (TIOB). He is currently deeply involved in the field of Business networks as related to business performance.

Ms. NEEMA MORI Ms. Mori holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and an MBA from University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She will also be a PhD student in International Management at the University of Agder in Norway from August, 2008. She has four years experience of teaching, researching and consulting in areas of Micro Finance, Entrepreneurship and small business development. She has attended a number of competency-based courses on entrepreneurship, customer care, micro-finance, business planning, consultancy skills, adult training, project formulation, etc. As a UDEC associate and Faculty of Commerce staff, she has consulted for a number of organization including private companies, business associations and agencies.
